Not Hi...

Silas can sometimes wake up in quite a sour mood. Yesterday morning right after he woke, I heard him coming down the stairs so I went to the bottom to great him and said, "Hi Silas!!!" His response: "Not Hi."

Cars and Trucks and Things That Go...

So the other day Alli was over and she put Silas down for his nap. As is essential to the process, she read him Cars and Trucks and Things That Go by Richard Scarry. When she came back downstairs she said, "did you know Silas can find Goldbug on every single page?" Yes, I did know that. And it's probably because he has read the book at every single nap time and bed time for at least the last four months, probably longer. The kid LOVES this book. I've begged him to chose a different book on numerous occasions, but he won't hear of it. Fortunately, he is willing to settle with us simply asking "where's Goldbug on this page" rather than reading all of the words, because in case you haven't read it before, it is an incredibly long book. But the point is, this is by far Silas' favorite book. And since it has held the position for so long, I figured it was worth mentioning on the blog. I'm pretty sure I'll never forget reading it to him five billion times, but you never know. At least I now have it documented. And thank you to Becky and Hale! They are the ones who gave the book to us. Clearly, it's a hit.

Little Bunny Foo Foo

Thank you, Grandma! We happened to be singing the song this morning and then got him in the mail. Good timing. The boys are loving him!

The first sprinkler fun of the year...

Sick...

I'm not sure if you've ever had a child with a fever of 105.5, but let me tell you: it's scary. That's the fever Owen woke up with last Friday night. So, I called the 24 hour on-call nurse and she helped us get his fever down to 103, which she said would be sufficient in allowing us to wait until morning to get him to see a doctor. Needless to say, we didn't sleep much that night. The next morning, I loaded up my sick little guy and headed to the doctor. While there, he actually fell asleep in my arms while the doctor was examining him. Maybe that's because the lowest his fever ever got that day was 103, and that was with the maximum dose of Tylenol and Ibuprofen. At any rate, they did a strep test and a flu test and it turns out he had the flu. I've only ever known of the stomach flu, so it surprised me that my burning up, croup coughing, lethargic little boy had the flu. But he did. So I specifically asked the doctor to send his prescriptions to a pharmacy that had a drive through so I didn't have to haul the poor little guy into a store. We get to said pharmacy and it turns out the medicine he needs for the croup is out of stock. So, they send us over to the Shopko pharmacy, which is not a drive through. By this time it's well into the afternoon and Owen has been filled with a bunch of medicine, a bit of Gatorade and no rest. But, I can't leave him in the car, so I take him in with me. We pick up the medication, which the pharmacist tells me might not be the easiest for Owen to take, and I reassure him that Owen's tough and he can handle it. We get back to the car, I decide to give Owen the medicine right there in the parking lot and he immediately throws it up. Pharmacist was right. I have no change of clothes, only a few wipes, so I proceed to wipe the puke off my poor little guy, and lug him back in to the pharmacy in his throw-up soaked jammies to ask the pharmacist what the next best option might be because that one didn't work out so well for us. The kind pharmacist, bless his heart, quickly takes back the liquid form of the medication he had just given us and is in the process of preparing the pill form when poor little Owen proceeds to vomit all over the Shopko pharmacy floor. He's sitting in a shopping cart, which I quickly move only for him to throw up 2 more times leaving vomit over the ENTIRE floor. My poor boy is crying at this point, I have not a single wipe on me nor anything else to clean up with mess with, so what do I do? I cry. I seriously froze and all I could do was cry. Can you picture it? Thankfully, the employees of the pharmacy were incredibly kind about it, handed us some towels and reassured us it was ok and that they would clean up with mess. There was even a really sweet lady who apparently had seen what had happened and had her daughter grab us a package of wipes, which they paid for. So, although we were in pretty sad shape, God provided several people that day whose kindness was appreciated beyond what I can express. Anyhow, we eventually did get home, Owen didn't move for about 4 days, but he did get better. And now, excluding a few deep coughs here and there, our little guy is back to his normal self. So there you have our adventure in the land of sick.

The Force...

Owen has had the special privilege of watching Star Wars with Daddy lately, and the other day the following conversation occurred:

Owen: My Dad, the most important one, he has The Force.

Me: Honey, Daddy doesn't have The Force. The Force isn't real.

Owen: No really. My dad could have The Force if he wanted to. My Dad in Heaven.

You know how kids (maybe boys in particular) like to brag about how awesome their dads are? They say things like, my dad is bigger than your dad, my dad is so strong, my dad can catch a snake, stuff like that. Well let me tell you, to hear your son bragging about God and what He can do like he's bragging about his earthly Daddy is pretty stinking special.

Boys...

Alli and the boys came over yesterday. We sent the big ones out to the ditch to play for a while and this is how they returned: (I do need to mention that it had snowed earlier in the day)

When it snows in March...

this is what keeps 2 busy boys entertained. Ok, so maybe it wasn't technically March yet, but if it weren't a Leap Year it would have been.

March Memory Verse...

Mischief...

This happens a lot around our house lately:

A few minutes of silence.

Mom (or Dad): Silas?

Silas: "Nusin" (translation: nothing)

You know he's up to no good when he answers "nothing" before you even ask him where he is or what he's doing. And it's usually because he's getting into the bathroom faucet, Daddy's tools, gum, or on the counter reaching for the candy stash. Man, I love that kid!

Alive and kicking...

I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted! But we are still here. And life has been happening. We did, in fact, celebrate Valentine's Day and we also had the Davila boys over for a night while their parents went to Oregon. But before I show you those photos I want to explain why it's been so long since I've posted. You see, I've found a great way to turn this blog into a book. It's pretty time consuming but totally worth it. I started this blog in 2008 and have printed 2 years worth of it into books. If any of you fellow bloggers are interested, look into Blurb. It's fun. I do need to warn you, however, that it is well worth your time to upload your full resolution photos to be used in the book rather than the small ones the program pulls straight from your blog. Trust me, I learned the hard way! At any rate, I'm still here and will try to post a little more frequently in the next couple of weeks! Here are a few recent shots...

Memory Verse for February...

Alli gave me the idea a while ago to turn this kids' memory verse into a cute printable card to stick some place in the house. So when she was over the other day, we did just that. I'm posting it below in case any of you want to print it for your house. It's a simplified version, which is just right for the little kiddos. Also, I made it as a 5x7 so if you want it smaller than that you might have to resize it when you print it.

Six Month Ruby...

There is no way she could possibly be any cuter:
