Let me introduce you to Fluffy. Silas bought him with his Christmas money and he might just be the softest stuffed animal ever made:
This morning I told Silas I would play stuffed animals with him while Ezra took his morning nap. In preparation, we ventured down to the storage room to find a few treasures of mine from childhood that I knew might be of some use. When I was a girl, if I wasn't out climbing trees you could probably find me playing house. I sure did love my dolls! Raising three boys, I haven't gotten out very many of my childhood mementos, largely because they are mostly pink or purple or dolls. But I knew I had this little high chair that Silas might want to feed Fluffy in:
I also knew I had a special little bed that I thought Silas might want to let Fluffy sleep in. When I was little, I would spend hours looking through the American Girl catalogues that would come in the mail. I so desperately wanted one, but my mom repeatedly told me they were far too expensive for a toy. One year (I don't remember if it was my birthday or Christmas), I begged and begged for a Samantha doll. Again, Mom talked with me about how expensive she was and how it wouldn't be wise to spend that much money on a doll. But lo and behold, when I opened my present, guess what was inside? Samantha! She was by far my favorite gift I ever received as a child (coming in a close second is a stuffed bunny Mom made me, but that's a whole different story). So for the next few gift giving occasions, I added to my collection of Samantha accessories, this bed being one of them:
And finally, as Silas and I were looking through my tote of childhood treasures, I came across something that I had no clue my mom even saved for me. One of the boys' favorite stories to hear from my childhood is the one where I was running down the hill when I was two and broke my arm. They laugh every time I get to the part where I was in the grocery store with Mom, flung my cast off my arm, and it went sliding down the aisle. Well, guess what? Much to my surprise, Mom saved that cast!
Mom, thanks for saving these treasures for me! It was so fun for Silas and me to get them out today. It makes me want to make a point to save a few of the boys' special things. Some day they, too, might get them out with their children and smile at the memories.
